Back in 2011 Mum and I set off to Manchester airport on the start of a week long coach touring holiday of Sicily. We were booked into the Radisson Blue hotel for an early flight to Catania the next morning. Evening meal overlooking the “busy” airport was interrupted by the news coverage of the huge volcanic ash cloud that was causing widespread travel disruption. Mum was oblivious to this but i planned to cancel that night and take mum on a road trip to Scotland instead. Needless to say the flight went shead and we had a truly lovely week in Sicily, including visits to the Valley of the Temples, Taormina, Syracuse and of course Mount Etna. We had a wonderful time, so glad we did it while mum could enjoy it. If you ever visut Sicily and I thoroughly recommend you do, think of us and mums smiling face as we reached the top of Etnas tourist trail! I treasure those memories.
